A real life story
Keith and Joanne's story shows how life insurance has helped one Australian family – and small business.
But they didn’t quite have enough cover, or the right types of cover.
They talk about how this affected their family life and the positive impact that life insurance – and good advice – can have.
Examples and facts
We don’t need to be reminded that accidents and serious illness happen. We all know people who have had to take a significant time off work due to illness or injury.
But it’s important to remember how business expenses insurance can help you and your family during that time. It gives you options and financial freedom when you need it most.
At Asteron we get letters, emails and phone calls from people like Keith and Joanne everyday that remind us why insurance – and advice – is so important.
We’re generally pretty healthy – and not away from work for long
The good news is that people that take time out of work due to illness or injury, 25% of these people were back at work in six months. For business owners though, six months is a long time to take out of your business!12
For those who do need it, Asteron paid out $77 million in income protection and business expense insurance claims to our customers in 2008.

Not all insurance policies are created equal
When you’re looking at getting business expenses cover, keep your eyes out for extras that provide you with more benefits at claim time, such as:
- benefits that increase with time – rewarding your loyalty and your decision to stay covered
- the ability to be able to work for a few hours per week (if you can) without having your benefit payment reduced
- a policy that pays your full benefit – and doesn’t offset the business’ profits.
